Bike to Work Week 2014: May 26 - June 1!

Bike to Work Kamloops

And the Winners Are....

Happy day 2 everyone! 110 teams so far!

The day started a little slow at the Columbia Street Celebration Station, but things were picking up around 8 a.m. when I left. We got the Spin to Win bike set-up after a quick tune-up from Brad Heyman of Taboo Cycles and riders were winning things all over the place!

I headed to work and decided to be a little later than planned and continued up the hill to check out the Runner’s Sole Celebration Station. Wayne Richardson and Kathy Wilson were there to greet me with big smiles and fuel me up with a double chocolate Pro Bar and some Skratch electrolytes.

Wayne is super pumped on Bike to Work Week and is looking for ideas for next year’s Celebration Station. He is looking to go big so if you have any great ideas please stop by Runner’s Sole and bend his ear.

On to the Team Leader Winners!

Children's Place Childcare Lemonade Stand

Day 1 - Commuter Challenge

Please join me with a big "Great job!" to Trevor and Anne for organizing a very successful Commuter Challenge. The event was totally enjoyed by all, and went off without a hitch. Although it was not a race :)…
1st place went to Robert Koopmans, from the Daily News, on his mountain bike
2nd place to Terry Lake, MLA and BC Minister of the Environment, in his electric car, and
3rd place to Donovan Cavers, Kamloops city Councillor and owner of Conscientious Catering, on his road bike The draw prize of a GC to Franco’s Auto went to Hazen Todd from Urban Systems.
See pics.
What a great way to kick off the week! (Now pray for sunshine! :))

Friday is the BTWW Wrap Up BBQ.  Be sure to come to this and enjoy a free burger or hot dog and chat with your fellow commuters.   Also, lots of prizes will be given away.

Finally, if you have any good commuting pics or stories from yourself or your team, please email them to me at KamloopsBTWW@shaw.ca.  I will be sure to post them on the website.

More Celebration Stations

Two local businesses are giving bike commuters something else to cheer about by running their own mini celebration stations during Kamloops Bike To Work Week, May 27 to June 2, 2013.

Runners Sole (1395 Hillside Dr, in the Aberdeen Village mall) welcomes all bike riders to drop by its outside tent on May 28 from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. They’ll have samples of Skratch, an electrolyte drink, ProBar, an energy bar, and everyone who cycles to the store will have a chance to win a $100 gift certificate! Cyclists will also have a chance to win other prizes while they’re there, including clothing, athletic accessories and food.

Calling all Lemondate Stand Operators

In an effort to encourage young entrepreneurs—and a way to get more lemonade stands for thirsty bike commuters!—Kamloops Bike To Work Week (BTWW) will give any lemonade stand entrepreneurs the supplies for their own lemonade stand, and then they can keep all of the profits!
