Cycling is the best part of my day

After retiring from my teaching job in Alberta in 2005, I moved to Victoria. Since getting my current job in 2006 I have done my daily commute of about 10 kilometres one-way from Colwood to the Technology Park by bike. I started cycling 38 years ago, and cycled to and from work in Alberta when I could.

Of course weather and distances in Alberta can be a challenge for bike commuting so it is difficult to do it year-round. We are so fortunate to have the good weather and infrastructure that we do here in Victoria that accommodates cycling.

Team Prize Winners Announced

We are excited to announce that Thanks to our incredible sponsors,  over $40,000 in prizes are now allocated to 2013 Bike to Work Week Teams who entered team results. Click here to see if you won. Winners are listed alphabetically by Team Leader last name.

Learn about some of our Sponsors

The 2013 Greater Victoria Bike to Work Week would not be possible without the incredible support of over 100 local sponsors. One of these sponsors is reFUSE Recycling.

reFUSE believes the road to zero waste has dedicated bike lanes. That’s why in 2010, reFUSE partnered with Cowichan Recyclists and the Downtown Victoria Business Association to create reCYCLISTS, a pedal-powered solution to waste transportation. Using cargo trikes and Vancouver Island-made bike trailers, ReFUSE riders haul compost and recycling to help the region reach zero waste.

Why I Love Biking to Work

In August of 2012 I decided to put my fears aside and join the biking commuter community. To this day I am not sure why I decided to start biking. Was it a combination of increased gas prices and parking rates mixed with a desire to find a way to get regular exercise before I turn 40? Perhaps it was watching the multitude of people zoom by me every day as I drove to UVic secretly thinking (make that wishing) “that could be me saving money and getting fit!”

Thank You Everyone!
