Bike to Work Week 2014: May 26 - June 1!

Bike to Work & School Week 2013 Final Results

Firstly, congratulations to all riders of Bike to Work & School Week 2013 who helped to make the event a success. Collectively we logged over 10,000 km and encouraged 73 people to try riding to work for the first time!

Of course, for the competitive among us, it’s time for our prize announcements! Each year, Integris Credit Union sponsors the grand prizes for Bike to Work and & School Week: bike racks installations at locations selected by the winning teams. Over the past five years, these installations have added approxiamtely 40 bike parking spaces to our community, and this year we will be adding 20 more!

Without further ado, the winning teams of this year’s Bike to Work & School Week are:

  • Large team (50+ members): Catholic Public Schools Prince’s Sacred Heart Wheelers with 12.5% of staff and students cycling during the week - 4 bike racks
  • Medium team (21-50 members): Environmental Dynamics Inc’s Return of the J.EDI.s with 60% of staff cycling to work during the week - 3 bike racks
  • Small team (11-20 members): Ministry of Environment’s Omineca Environmental Protection Division with 67.1% of staff cycling to work during the week - 2 bike racks
  • Mini Team (3-10 members): Digital Dementia’s Tyred but Happy Team with 100% of the team cycling to work and school during the week - 1 bike rack

We have also received generous prize packs from our cycling shop sponsors: Evolve, Koops, Ruckus, Cycle Logic, and the Northern, which we will award to our draw participants that visited the celebration stations.

The draw prize winners are:

  • Tiffany Bonnet
  • Sean Knudson
  • Erin Reynolds
  • Josh DeLeenheer
  • Cam McNamara
  • Devon Flynn

This year, we are also recognizing our cyclist of the year, established in honour of the 5th anniversary of the Bike to Work & School Week, to recognize an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to commuter cycling in the city.

This year, the award for cyclist of the year goes to a duo: Norm and Colleen Easson.

Norm was an active volunteer in the first ever Bike to Work & School Week, and has since recruited his wife Colleen to build their commitment to cycling by visiting every celebration station we host. Norm and Colleen have also played an active role in Critical Mass Prince George. Thank you Norm and Colleen for your enthusiasm

To Claim your Prizes:

On June 24th, Prince George City Council will be opening their regular council meeting with a segment dedicated to celebrating the success of Bike to Work & School Week 2013. Draw winners should come to City Hall by 5:45pm on June 24th to collect their prizes from our coordinator.  At 6:00pm, Council meeting will begin and we will award the winning teams and cyclists of the year. We would encourage members of each of the winning teams to be present to accept their award. All participants are invited to be present to celebrate the success of Bike to Work & School Week 2013.

If you cannot attend the June 24th council meeting, please make alternate arrangements for prize pick-up with our coordinator, Laura.

Notes for bike rack winners:

  • Bike racks will be installed by PG Cycling club volunteers or designated property managers
  • Bike rack style: Bike rack brochure
  • Bike racks must be installed in publically accesible locations (ie, no staff parking garages or private residences)
  • Bike racks cannot be installed at competing financial institutions
  • Bike rack locations must have appropriate footings (ie. concrete, not cobblestone or asphalt).
  • Bike rack locations must be approved by property owners. Bike racks on City of Prince George property require a permit to occupy (PG Cycling Club can assist with this)
  • Bike rack installations are intended as a community contribution. If there is not an appropropriate location at your workplace, please consider donating the installations to organizations in need (ie PG Farmers’ Market, PG Public Library, your team’s favourite lunch spot, etc)
  • For questions about bike racks installations, please contact PG Cycling Club President, Jillian Merrick, jillian_m@pgcyclingclub.ca, 250-561-0562
